Platelab Terms of Use

Effective date: August 18, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Platelab iOS app ("Platelab", "the app"), operated by Ryan Dewsbury ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Platelab, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

What Platelab is

Platelab generates recipes, plated-food images, and cooking-related chat responses using an AI model (Google Gemini), by sending your recipe and chat text to our server, which forwards it to Gemini for generation. See the Privacy Policy for details on data handling.

Subscription, pricing, and free trial

Platelab requires an active subscription to use, offered as follows:

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

AI-generated content disclaimer

Recipes, ingredient suggestions, cooking instructions, images, and chat responses produced by Platelab are generated by an AI model and are provided for general informational and inspirational purposes only. AI-generated content can be inaccurate, outdated, or simply wrong.

You are solely responsible for exercising your own judgment before acting on any generated content — particularly regarding food safety. This includes, without limitation: verifying safe cooking and holding temperatures, checking for allergens and ingredient substitutions appropriate to your own dietary needs, confirming safe storage and reheating times, and using your own judgment about food that looks, smells, or seems off regardless of what a recipe says. Platelab does not review generated recipes for food-safety accuracy before they are shown to you. Do not rely on the app as a substitute for established food safety guidance from a public health authority.

No warranty

Platelab is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated content will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from or related to your use of Platelab, including any harm arising from reliance on AI-generated recipes or food-safety information. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the app will not exceed the amount you paid us in subscription fees in the three months preceding the claim.

Third-party services

Platelab relies on Google Gemini to generate content and on Apple's App Store and StoreKit for billing and distribution. Your use of the app is also subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) where Apple's standard EULA applies, and to Google's terms governing the Gemini API.

Termination

We may suspend or discontinue the app or your access to it at any time, including for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the app and cancel your subscription at any time as described above.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your own jurisdiction.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we do, we will update the effective date above and revise the copy hosted at this same URL. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
