Platelab Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Platelab iOS app ("Platelab", "the app"), operated by Ryan Dewsbury ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Platelab, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
What Platelab is
Platelab generates recipes, plated-food images, and cooking-related chat responses using an AI model (Google Gemini), by sending your recipe and chat text to our server, which forwards it to Gemini for generation. See the Privacy Policy for details on data handling.
Subscription, pricing, and free trial
Platelab requires an active subscription to use, offered as follows:
- Price: $9.99 USD per month (or the equivalent in your local currency as priced by Apple), billed on a recurring monthly basis.
- Free trial: New subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your paid subscription begins automatically and your payment method on file with Apple will be charged.
- Auto-renewal: The subscription automatically renews each month unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the then-current price.
- Cancellation: You can cancel anytime in your iOS device Settings, under your Apple ID → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; there are no partial refunds for unused time, except as required by Apple's or applicable law's refund policies.
- Billing: All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not process, store, or have access to your payment card details.
- Fair use: Generation costs us money per request, so each subscription carries a daily limit on the number of recipe, image, and chat generations it can make. The limit is set well above normal personal cooking use; if you reach it, requests are declined until the limit resets the next day. We may adjust the limit to keep the service running sustainably.
- Price changes: If the subscription price changes, Apple will notify you in accordance with App Store policy before any new price takes effect.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Platelab for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes the rights of others.
- Attempt to circumvent the app's subscription requirement or interfere with its operation, including probing, disabling, or bypassing security controls or the daily usage limits applied to each subscription.
- Use automated means (scraping, bots, or bulk requests) to extract content from the app or its backend service beyond normal interactive use.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
AI-generated content disclaimer
Recipes, ingredient suggestions, cooking instructions, images, and chat responses produced by Platelab are generated by an AI model and are provided for general informational and inspirational purposes only. AI-generated content can be inaccurate, outdated, or simply wrong.
You are solely responsible for exercising your own judgment before acting on any generated content — particularly regarding food safety. This includes, without limitation: verifying safe cooking and holding temperatures, checking for allergens and ingredient substitutions appropriate to your own dietary needs, confirming safe storage and reheating times, and using your own judgment about food that looks, smells, or seems off regardless of what a recipe says. Platelab does not review generated recipes for food-safety accuracy before they are shown to you. Do not rely on the app as a substitute for established food safety guidance from a public health authority.
No warranty
Platelab is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated content will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from or related to your use of Platelab, including any harm arising from reliance on AI-generated recipes or food-safety information. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the app will not exceed the amount you paid us in subscription fees in the three months preceding the claim.
Third-party services
Platelab relies on Google Gemini to generate content and on Apple's App Store and StoreKit for billing and distribution. Your use of the app is also subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) where Apple's standard EULA applies, and to Google's terms governing the Gemini API.
Termination
We may suspend or discontinue the app or your access to it at any time, including for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the app and cancel your subscription at any time as described above.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your own jurisdiction.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we do, we will update the effective date above and revise the copy hosted at this same URL. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
